Archive for August, 2014

Hello lovelies,

It’s been a while, but the month has been incredibly busy so far, what with trips to Tulbagh, Hermanus, my 10 year school reunion, sorting out the garden, and dinners with friends. So excuse the lack of updates, I’ve been busy living. ^_~

I’m going to be adding in a “Favourite Finds” segment to the blog since it’s always fun reading these on other blogs, and I figure since I come across some great things fairly often, why should I share the love? ^_^

So to kick-start this new category, here are my five favorite finds this month!

1. Divergent

Since finishing the Hunger Games trilogy, I’ve gotten into the Dystopian genre, and I was pleasantly surprised by my discovery of Divergent. I won’t give out any spoilers, but suffice to say Beatrice, who later goes by Tris, is quite an interesting character, and the factions within the society are detailed and well thought out. Give it read, or check out the movie, and don’t forget to pick up Insurgent and Allegiant to complete the trilogy.

2. Rooibos Tea

As much as I’m a coffee lover, I’m also a tea lover, and though I may enjoy my flavoured herbal teas (Oolong, Green Tea, , nothing beats a steaming cup of Rooibos! It’s packed full of antioxidents, tastes great without sugar, and is a great way to stay hydrated throughout the day. Image via atlier encantado (Flicker)

3. Rimmel Colour Rush

With spring approaching, it’s about time to switch up my lipstick choices, and I’m absolutely in love with the coral version of Rimmel’s Colour Rush series. It goes on smoothly, and the colour lasts for most of the day, though I do recommend touching it up regularly with vaseline / lip-ice /a lip gloss to keep your lips hydrated, as it can get a bit flaky if your lips tend to dry out like mine do.

4. Col’Cacchios Half Price Special

In cooler weather, pizza is a go-to food item, so what better way to beat the blues than by taking advantage of a half price pizza special!

5. Sunset drives

Now that the weather is improving, we’re getting gorgeous sunsets. Grab your loved ones and enjoy an evening drive and picnic.

What are some of your favourite finds this month?

Hello there darlings,

I know I skipped out on last month’s quote post, but alas being in another theatre show has taken a toll on my free time in the best possible ways *but still, tsk tsk to me for leaving you hanging!*.

This month’s quote has actually multiplied into several ‘quotes’ – and each of the below is a whopping big suitcase of emotional weight for me – since one of my all-time favourite actors was found dead in his room yesterday, with suicide suspected.

For those not in the know (or reading this years later, going “huh?”), I’m talking about Robin Williams, who I will always remembered for his role in Dead Poet Society as my “Captain, oh my Captain” (which could explain my love of Mal Reynolds, Jack Harkness, and Jack Sparrow later in life, but that’s besides the point of this post).

So as noted above, this month gets several quotes dedicated to the belated, inspiring, and gentle comic genius of Robin Williams, whom I will always admire, respect, and who I hope is in a better, more peaceful place now that his struggle with depression is over:

This makes me so sad now!

So this month, don’t take no for an answer. Seize the day, tell others you love them, care for those less fortunate without any expectations, and give of yourself generously. You never know who appreciates that smile or helping hand you give them.

Until next time.

Keep it shiny,

Daughter of Dreams
